Allergy and Intolerance Testing

Modern living changes in our diet and the increased consumption of processed food with reduced exposure to naturally grown food can significantly change the composition of the gut microbiome. Your gut is home to 70% of your immune system so help yourself by reducing the number of allergens and intolerances in your diet that you may be reacting to, thus preventing your immune system from becoming overworked and under performing as a result.

What is the difference between an allergy and an intolerance?

Allergies are developed from birth and currently, 6-8% of children have allergies and 2% of adults.  Allergies create a response relatively quickly (within 2 hours appx) and common examples of symptoms would be wheezing, itching, vomiting or diarrhoea, dizziness, fainting and swelling.

Intolerances are developed at any age and currently, 45% of the population suffer from intolerances to food.  These symptoms can develop up to 72 hours after eating the food in question and common examples of symptoms would be bloating, IBS, weight issues, migraines, arthritis, depression/anxiety, rhinitis, psoriasis and tiredness,

Take control of your overall health.

When we ingest what our body believes is a toxin, our immune system fires off a response to neutralise the threat.  Unfortunately, this same response also triggers allergies and intolerances to certain foods.  This hypersensitivity can occur in any food group, although the big 8 are milk, eggs, peanuts, nuts, fish, shellfish, wheat and soy.

Generally, tests are not available on the NHS and your GP is likely to ask you to eliminate certain groups and keep food and symptom diaries for months at a time.  Basically a process of elimination which is extremely difficult to complete for most people.  Therefore allergy and intolerance testing is the way to get comprehensive results and full reporting in order to get straight to the cause.
