Importance of nutrition…

The body requires many different vitamins and minerals that are crucial for both body development and preventing disease. These vitamins and minerals are often referred to as micronutrients. They aren’t produced naturally in the body, so you have to get them from your diet.  A nutritional deficiency occurs when the body doesn’t receive the necessary amount of a nutrient or alternatively is not able to absorb the necessary amount of a nutrient.

Deficiencies can lead to a variety of health problems both major and minor. Minor health symptoms that may indicate deficiencies are things such as lack of energy, ongoing aches and pains, constipation, loose stools, split nails, brittle hair, mood swings, poor memory or focus, pre menstrual tension, skin rashes, dry skin, eczema, to name but just a few! Many people look for a diagnosis of some kind of health condition rather than examining the diet and with over 9 years experience as a Nutritional Therapist, I have seen so many issues resolved as a result of dietary changes whether that be as a result of food changes or supplements.

There are reasons why your body may be unable to absorb certain nutrients even if you’re consuming them, and this is another factor that needs to be considered in nutritional health.  Ultimately, it’s possible to be deficient in any of the nutrients your body needs, dependent on your own individual circumstances.
